| A question for all you musicians out there... Exactly what are the most used scales/modes of Jorn Viggo's solos!?!? I have never been into this scales and modes until recently when I started studying them, I know they can really help you when it comes to soloing and composing in general so I want to learn the most used of my favs guitarrists... That includes JVL heheh |

Jorn's playing is mainly about the Minor/Major pentatontic scale and the Aeolean mode, which are a few of the most common in metal. On the other hand he sometimes tend to use some more exotic modes like Lydian or Phrygian. For example, the intro to 'Approaching' utilizes alot of phrygian phrasings in the opening riff. Intrstingly though, Jorn Viggo himself says he doesnt know much about the theory himself, and usually figuers out his solos by ear. _________________

I have known this guy since...wow! mid 80's now! He got this gift of superb guitar feeling and it's about time he got his chance to show it for the world! You can say thanks to Pagan boys for including mr Lofstad in the band...back in 1999? He was lost in several cover bands and do a lot of ToTo and Van halen stuff...at home....alone...with his guitar... Now he show the world how to play solo guitar with feeling! _________________ Rock till you drop...no mercy! |

I am a guitar freak and am always looking for great players to learn from. I can't tell you just how amazing Jorn's playing is to me. After listening to just 2 albums worth of songs I am struck by the breadth of his talent. Rythme, lead or riffing, he has no weaknesses. His note selection is refreshing, even within something common like the pentatonic scale, he manages to be unique. All that and he has little knowledge of theory? Man, that's insane. I am going to spend alot of time gleaning different skills from Jorn.

Well, he didn't invent tapping, but he sure took it to a whole new level. He was such a master of that and his rythmn ideas were very underappreciated. Loved him when he was at his best.
I am really amazed at Jorn's control, he has such a fluid style. I would love to see or at least hear him live to see how well he handles his ideas in front of an audience. I bet he is pyrotechnical!

Trust me, he handles it live perfectly. I think he's better live than in the studio! _________________ http://www.myspace.com/entrancetoinfinity |
